I’ve always been more of a Bon Appétit and Donna Hay kind of girl. Nonetheless, I was sad to see Gourmet magazine fold last year. The last time I picked up a copy at Whole Foods, I remember thinking the design was so 90s and the voice a little stuffy. Still, I love the elegance that Gourmet represented—even if it still brings to mind Laura Ashley.
Today Condé Nast announced the launch of a strictly online Gourmet magazine. “Gourmet Live brings together content, social and location-based technology, a variety of engagement options all around cooking, travel, entertaining, special occasions, fine dining, holidays and more! Coming to your favorite devices this fall!”
My guess is that at first content will lean on the magazine’s archives, but it’s exciting to think the editorial (not just the brand) is coming out of retirement online. If they’re successful, we could finally have a new model for magazines to follow.
